Creating an email account in DirectAdmin
Last updated 8/1/2026 by Alfie Web Solutions
Every DirectAdmin hosting plan lets you create your own email addresses on your domain (e.g. [email protected]) at no extra cost.
Creating the mailbox
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- Click E-mail Accounts.
- Click Create Mail Account.
- In the Username field, enter the part before the @ (e.g. "info" for [email protected]).
- Choose a strong password, or use the Create Random Password option.
- Set a Quota (mailbox size limit) - 250-1000MB is a sensible starting point for a normal mailbox.
- Click Create.
Your new address is ready to receive mail immediately.
Accessing your email
You have two options:
- Webmail (browser-based): go to https://yourdomain.com/webmail (or https://webmail.yourdomain.com) and log in with the full email address and password. No setup needed - good for checking mail from anywhere.
- A mail app (Outlook, Apple Mail, the Gmail app, etc.): add the account using these settings:
- Incoming (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
- Outgoing (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL/TLS
- Username: your full email address
- Password: the mailbox password you set above
Most modern mail apps will detect these automatically if you just enter your email address and password.
Troubleshooting
- Mail bounces or "user unknown": double-check the address was typed correctly and that MX records for your domain point to our mail servers (see the DNS Management guide).
- Can't send, only receive: your outgoing mail server settings are usually the issue - confirm port 465 with SSL/TLS as above, and that "My outgoing server requires authentication" is ticked.
- Still stuck? Submit a ticket under Email Hosting with the exact error message you're seeing.
